Pest Control

PEST CONTROL: We've need  to start with Pest Control, it is well documented that the possums, rats, mustelids (stoats, ferrets and weasels) and hedgehogs have had a huge impact on the birdlife flora and fauna. This is where we must start to try and combat the predators Every one we catch is a win for our native species.

Up on the Ranges Greg and his team have been making a huge impact we need to support all that great work by helping in our Backyards and our Riverbanks and Reserves.

Countdown to Launch!

Coming soon!....with real momentum building with locals now, we think its a great time to grow this beast. We are planning an official launch day for Saturday May 25th, hosted by Go Eco and we'd love to know who's interested in attending and what feedback you may have for the day.

Our goal will be to sign up more volunteers for the project as well as touch base with more local land owners. There will be trapping tips shared among other things and we'll share our vision for a Predator Free Hakarimata and how everyone can help protect our species with the halo effect spillover of native birds into Ngāruawāhia, Taupiri, Huntly and other surrounding towns.

We'd love your feedback to make this event a success....what would you like to see on the day?

Native Planting

Native planting and pest control go hand in hand, for good results you really need both. We salute anyone who's working on native planting and in particular wetland restoration. Here's one of our native planting areas after 2.5 years of growth.

Predator Control: Possums

Predator control for Kererū at this time of year is particularly important. They only lay one egg per year, and if there's not enough food in the forest, some seasons they won't even nest at all. As we get possum and rat numbers down, the forest will produce a lot more kai for them.  Up past 2400 possums now and it's actually more exciting getting them now than ever before. Because we've thinned them out a bit, I'd say the catches are even more important right now.
